Voyage through Time

Time log of the happenings in the Universe, from the Big Bang beginning to the future ending.
To cover a wide range in time, a 'logarithmic clock' is used.
After each tick N, the Universe is 10 times older than the previous one.

Tick range: N=log(time)= -10 to +15 N Event ---- ------------------------------------------------------
  • -07.5 : Universe has a temperature T=1010 Kelvin
  • -06 : Annihilation of surplus pairs of positron - electron
  • -05 : Creation of Helium and Deuterium nuclei
  • +0 : Happy New Year! The Universe is 1 year old.
  • +05 : Creation of Hydrogen atoms, and of Cosmic Background Radiation
  • +05.5 : Universe has a temperature T of 3000 Kelvin
  • +05.5 : Gas in the Universe cools and becomes neutral and dark.
  • +06 : Creation of first stars; "Stellar Era" starts
  • +09 : Creation of first galaxies, and of first quasars
  • +09.1 : Gas in Universe becomes ionized by ultraviolet radiation from stars
  • +09.8 : Vacuum energy (dark energy) kicks in
  • +10 : Collapse of proto-solar cloud, and start of planet formation around Sun
  • +10.1 : Primitive life forms in primitive planet Earth
  • +10.15 : Universe has a temperature T of 3 Kelvin
  • +10.15 : *** N O W ! *** 14 billion years after the Big Bang
  • +10.3 : Sun becomes a Red Giant star, swallows Mercury, Venus, Earth
  • +10.4 : The Andromeda galaxy collides with the Milky Way
  • +11.2 : Virgo cluster of galaxies leaves our Horizon I(in an accelerated Universe)
  • +12.0 : Cosmic Background radiation photons stretch beyond our Horizon (in an accelerated Universe)
  • +13 : End of conventional star formation in our Galaxy
  • +14 : All red dwarf stars die
  • +14 : "White Dwarf Era" starts (all interstellar gas/dust used up; no more star formation)
