About CNC-URSI

The Canadian National Committee of URSI was formed in 1952.

The Canadian National Committee of the International Union of Radio Science aspires to be the leading proponent for, and supporter of, Canadian participation in international studies and scientific exchange concerning all aspects of electromagnetic fields and waves. 

The mission of CNC-URSI is: 

a) to encourage and promote international activity in radio science - the knowledge and study of all aspects of electromagnetic fields and waves - and its applications, for the benefit of humanity; 

b) to encourage the adoption of common methods of measurement, and the intercomparison and standardization of the measuring instruments used in scientific work; 

c) to stimulate and coordinate studies of: i) the scientific aspects of telecommunications using electromagnetic waves, guided and unguided; ii) the generation, emission, radiation, propagation, reception, and detection of fields and waves, and iii) the processing of the signals embedded in them. 

d) to represent radio science to the general public, and to public and private organizations. 

e) to represent Canadian interests and perspectives in its role as a Member Committee of the International Union of Radio Science (Union Radio-Scientifique Internationale); 

f) to organize, support and contribute to meetings, conferences, symposia, tutorials, short courses, and similar events that promote scientific exchange, communication and learning in the fields of radio science. 

g) to encourage participation of students, early career researchers and others in meetings, conferences, symposia, tutorials, short courses, summer schools and similar events concerning radio science through awarding of travel grants. 

h) to recognize the accomplishments of those engaged in research concerning radio science and its applications through scholarships, fellowships and awards. 

i) to recognize and share the historical accomplishments of Canadians engaged in activities related to radio science and its applications and otherwise contribute to the professional identity of those who are entering, and those who are active in, the field.
